With few exceptions, every one of has has an idol what we worship, or worshipped. Sheena Easton a petite little pop singer of Scottish extraction was mine for a while back in 1985.
The publishing house that I was doing some work for wanted to see what I could do in the way of acrylic painting for book covers and I created this for them. A huge space ship hovering over a wierd alien landscape with a girl in the foreground. The title? "Easton Time" of course - a whimsical play on words!

A ballpoint pen and watercolour sketch of an imaginary creature that I created for a failed production design for a movie based on AE van Vogt's book "Mission to the Stars". With today's CG animation this would have been easily created but in 1983 there was no such technology available so either stop motion or a servo-controlled body suit would have been used. Very expensive! The text on the sketch reads: "S-Doradus male brave. Typical of universal CC centaur species. Peaceful unless advanced territorial instinct is aroused. Centaur ideally suited to damp swamp conditions of entire S-Doradus planet. Nutrient-bearing atmosphere is inhaled through double "gill" slits on either side of creature's "neck". Keen sense of smell and sight and creature is capable of high speeds and is an agile jumper."

The very first picture I drew using a computer. Created with the Commodore Amiga 2000. 32 colours on a 320 by 256 pixel resolution. Things have changed a lot since then.

"Every story has a beginning..."

I suppose I had to start somewhere. I had just acquired a copy of a 3D program that I had seen for the Apple Macintosh and was now available for the PC - Metacreation's Bryce. I did what every new 3D artist would have done with this program, and slapped a reflective texture on an object, created a terrain, found a default sky preset and rendered the thing, just to see what it looked like. "Bitten by the Gold Bug" was the result. Nothing great about the image except the dubious distinction of being my very first picture created with Bryce. I think I will keep it around just to remind myself where I came from. ("...been there, done that, rendered the picture...") The "antman" object was obtained from 3dCafe.

In the 22nd century, will there still be "woman drivers"?

Figure created with Poser 3 (my new toy in 1999), guns and sunglasses nicked from a "Lara Croft" Poser figure, helmut from a "Star Wars" Rebel pilot. Fighter obtained from "3D Cafe" .Combined and rendered with Bryce 3D. Smoke and flares added with Corel Photopaint 8.

In 1965, Harry Harrison wrote a science fiction novel entitled "Bill the Galactic Hero". A very witty piece featuring Bill, who becomes a bit of reluctant hero. I read the novel about 15 years ago and the image of a musclebound hero fighting off an alien terror has stuck in my mind.
