WIP - Current project: "The Doom of Doriath"

Getting the figure to be "most beautiful of all Elves and Men, the fairest of all the Children of the World." I difficult to say the least, but I hope I have got close. Afterall beauty is in the eye of the "beer-holder"...

Thingol is introduced as the King of Doriath, King of the Sindar, High-king and Lord of Beleriand. He is said to be "the tallest of all the Children of Ilúvatar" and "mightiest of the Eldar save Fëanor only". Another legend to capture in looks. This first render is fine apart from his hair which is described in the Silmarillion as long silver hair

She is a Maia of the race of the Ainur, akin to Yavanna. Early in the First Age she leaves the gardens of Lórien and goes to Middle-earth, and there she falls in love with the Elven-king Elu Thingol, King Greymantle, and with him rules the kingdom of Doriath. Another impossible "angelic being" to try to create.

He was the son of Barahir and Emeldir, a Man of the royal House of Bëor of Dorthonion. His romance with the Lúthien is the subject of this WIP. The texture of his leather jerkin was created by scanning on one of my own leather jackets.

This time Thingol has grey/silver hair and I have crerated dynamic clothing for him in Poser 6. Lots of bump and texture detail in his robes.

A different angle to show details on dynamic robes. Robes should look as if they are woven from precious metals!

The throne had to be unique and very "elvish" in order for it to work. A lot of bumpmap details and transparency effects to give a "stained glass window" effect.

Shows some of the detailed bumpmapping and the cloth pattherns (taken from William Morris textile patterns)

A Poser 6 render of all the figures - which slows my P4 (with 2Gb of memory) down to a crawl. I sketched in some of the details that I want to have in the background. The tension between Thingol and the two lovers, Beren and Lúthien, has been created by the space between then and Thingol and Melian being jammed into the space. The hair of both Melian and Lúthien is a problem, but it has been changed since.

3 months later and all I have to show is the architecture for the throne room of Thingol
